About the author

Scott was born in Glasgow, Scotland and now lives in Switzerland, having spent much of his life living on planes and sitting around in airports. Apart from using Starbucks as a network of global writing offices, he does much of his work on planes and trains.

His passion is for history and the drama of historical events that impact human beings. One of his main themes is that history is not really "another country", in fact it is not even in the past. History is part and parcel of the human experience we all live through daily.
Had it not been for the medieval crusades, we would have a different situation in the middle east today, without the Reformation, the everyday experience of almost everyone on the planet would be significantly different, the explosive growth n modern capitalism shook the world from largely living on a daily budget of something like $3.00 per day to the unbelievable wealth we see around us, and the massive costs we incur in terms of maintaining that.
These historical events make the world what it is, and Scott's books are a small attempt to relate past events to our modern lives.

When I am not working, writing or sitting in Starbucks, I occasionally dust off my bike and drag myself along the coast road of Lake Geneva (that's the flat road). The only problem with cycling is that I can't take my dog with me.
